It is with gratitude and thanks that I greet you on this Thanksgiving Day! This is a brief post of psalms and prayers in praise to the Lord.
Great is the Lord.
A Song of Praise. Of David. Psalm 145.
I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
2 Every day I will bless you
and praise your name forever and ever.
3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
and his greatness is unsearchable.
4 One generation shall commend your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.
5 On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
6 They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds,
and I will declare your greatness.
7 They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.
8 The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9 The Lord is good to all,
and his mercy is over all that he has made.
10 All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
and all your saints shall bless you!
11 They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom
and tell of your power,
12 to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds,
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations.
[The Lord is faithful in all his words
and kind in all his works.][words only in one MS]
14 The Lord upholds all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food in due season.
16 You open your hand;
you satisfy the desire of every living thing.
17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and kind in all his works.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfills the desire of those who fear him;
he also hears their cry and saves them.
20 The Lord preserves all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.
21 My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.
Psalms of Praise and Worship make statements like these, extolling God and fixing our minds upon all he is and all that he does for us:
- Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
- Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
- Know that the Lord is good; it is he that has made us and not we ourselves.
- Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
The Lord, a Provider and the One Who Rescues Me.
Psalm 34.
A Psalm of David, when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed.
34 I will bless the Lord at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul will make its boast in the Lord;
The humble will hear it and rejoice.
3 Exalt the Lord with me,
And let’s exalt His name together.
4 I sought the Lord and He answered me,
And rescued me from all my fears.
5 They looked to Him and were radiant,
And their faces will never be ashamed.
6 This wretched man cried out, and the Lord heard him,
And saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him,
And rescues them.
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good;
How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
9 Fear the Lord, you His saints;
For to those who fear Him there is no lack of anything.
10 The young lions do without and suffer hunger;
But they who seek the Lord will not lack any good thing.
11 Come, you children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Who is the person who desires life
And loves length of days, that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil
And your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Turn from evil and do good;
Seek peace and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous,
And His ears are toward their cry for help.
16 The face of the Lord is against evildoers,
To eliminate the memory of them from the earth.
17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears
And rescues them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
And saves those who are crushed in spirit [contrite].
19 The afflictions of the righteous are many,
But the Lord rescues him from them all.
20 He protects all his bones,
Not one of them is broken.
21 Evil will bring death to the wicked,
And those who hate the righteous will suffer for their guilt.
22 The Lord redeems the souls of His servants,
And none of those who take refuge in Him will suffer for their guilt.
Today, we pause to thank the Lord for who He is, for all He has done and for how He has worked to get us to this place during this difficult year.
We thank God for His plan for our country as we go forward into the next year. We thank Him for our families. We thank Him for life. We thank Him for even the hard things that have occurred, because we know His intentions are always to bring good for those who love Him.

O Lord, we love You, and we trust You! Thank you for all You’ve given, for the ways You’ve protected us that we may never know, for the blessings You’ve showered upon us to bring us through this year unlike any other year we’ve ever known. We thank You! We give this year to You and the year to come, for You are good, and You are Lord over all.
We thank You for our loved ones who have remained healthy and strong and well, though we’ve been unable to see so many of them because of this virus. We release to You the ones who have gone on to be with You. We entrust everyone we love and all we have to You as we head into this winter. We thank You for your mercy toward us. We trust You!
Bless our new president-elect as he organizes his policies to lead our nation into the next phase of dealing with this virus, as well as all other important matters of state and needs in our country. O Lord, have mercy upon us. Pour out Your grace upon our current president, enabling him to transition out of office smoothly. O Lord, be gracious to us.
Grant us peace and protection, as well as a renewed love and awareness of Your presence. We thank You for Your goodness, and Your love that endures forever and ever. With praise and thanksgiving, Amen.
